Tour departs from Missoula Airport, heads North to Snow Bowl to the jagged peaks of the Rattlesnake Wilderness. Get a birds eye view of the many lakes, peaks, snowfields, wildlife, and wilderness. While exploring the Rattlesnake Wilderness on a clear day you will have a “surround sound” view of Western Montana's mountains. After exploring the Rattlesnake Wilderness Area, we fly by the “M” and the “L” getting a scenic tour of the University and downtown.
This tour includes the 1/2 tour heading North up and over Snow Bowl and the peaks of the Rattlesnake Wilderness Area. We then head straight up into the Mission MTN Range, up Mission Falls, and over the razor ridge sheer Garden Wall over Sunrise Glacier & McDonald Glacier. While in the Missions, we explore the many Glacial Tarns, snowfields, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife including the grizzly bear conservation zone, the National Bison Range, and many more spectacular unforgettable sights.
You will see along our flight one of the largest of Glacier's lakes. McDonald Lake lies at an elevation of 3,153 feet in the western part of the park. Notice Logan’s Pass, it sits at 6,646 feet above sea level and is at the summit of Going-to-the-Sun Road. Going-to-the-Sun Road is a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark that is 52 miles of highway that divides Glacier Park east and west and is the only road through the park crossing the Divide.
Upon exiting the park passing the West Glacier Entrance, we will stop for a snack and some fuel at Glacier International Airport at the private terminal located in Kalispell before our return southbound.
Along the way back we will fly with the shoreline of Flathead Lake, the largest natural lake in the Western US. Continuing on we will fly along the peaks of the Mission Mountain Wilderness, known as the “Jewel” by the Salish and Kootenai peoples. Finally, we fly over the Rattlesnake Wilderness that has a total of 32,976 acres with dozens of mountain lakes and jagged peaks located just outside Missoula, MT.
Yellowstone National Park is the largest super volcano in the world. The number of thermal features in Yellowstone is estimated at 10,000. As we cruise through Yellowstone, you will catch views of Yellowstone Lake which is the largest body of water in Yellowstone National Park. The lake is 7,732 feet above sea level and covers 136 square miles with 110 miles of shoreline. The average depth of the lake is 139 feet; its deepest spot is at least 390 feet. Yellowstone Lake is the largest freshwater lake above 7,000 feet in North America. This Tour takes about 6 hours with approximately 4.5 hours of flight time covering over 450 nm of scenic Western Montana and the Northern Rockies.
Now pay particular attention, Yellowstone National Park has the largest concentration of wildlife in the lower 48 states which includes; bison, elk, grizzly and black bears, moose, mountain lions, wolves, coyotes and mountain goats to name a few. Circling around, our flight takes us southwest to the upper and lower geysers. Probably the most well known geyser is Old Faithful.
